His versatility as a trumpet player has allowed him to perform alongside many international jazz stars including George Russell, Bob Brookmeyer, John Hollenbeck, the New York Voices, Mike Gibbs and Dave Douglas, as well as most of the leading names on the UK jazz scene. Amongst other things Nick was a member of the late Kenny Wheeler’s Big Band with whom he had had a long association, and is currently writing his biography. As an acclaimed musical director of large ensembles, Nick conducts the Stan Sulzmann Big Band (Neon Orchestra) and the Troyka large ensemble, “Troykestra”. He also performs internationally as the regular soloist with the James Taylor Quartet.
A musical prodigy (winning a Telegraph Young Composer Award aged twelve), Tim started out by sitting-in with jazz musicians that visited his home county of Suffolk. He left school at sixteen, and moved to London to be a full-time musician. Tim has played with a number of established bands and artists including Ben Lamdin’s Nostalgia 77, James Allsopp’s The Golden Age of Steam, Stan Sulzmann’s Neon Quartet and Neon Orchestra, Iain Ballamy, Ed Jones, Matt Bourne and Jamie Cullum, also co-leading the bands Leverton Fox and The Twelves. He has performed in live and studio broadcasts across the mainstream BBC network and alternative-radio stations such as Resonance FM. He leads drumming and jazz workshops across the UK, and is also a qualified teacher of the Alexander Technique.
